70 Years Of Human Rights

On november the 20th we participated to a very interesting discussion about The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, organised by Casa da Juventude de Ermesinde. This was a very interesting event in which all the participants shared different ideas about this extremely important document, also comparing laws in their own country, different costumes and habits. The event was organised because the 10 December, the Declaration, will celebrate its 70 years of existence!  In fact, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a milestone document in the history of human rights. It was drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, and was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 as a common standard of achievements for all peoples and all nations. It sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected and it has been translated into over 500 languages. The event was very dynamic. Me, Andrea, Dominika and Imanol were the only non portuguese speakers of the group. Beside some little problems of communication, due to the fact that we just arrived here few weeks ago, we could participate and enjoy this educative and funny morning with other portuguese students coming from two schools based in Ermesinde. The main objective was to compare our ideas about the main articles of the UDHR and compare these basics but, at the same time, so important rights, to the situation in our country. For example, in all countries, the question of genre is still a very debated question, such as the one of inequalities, which are becoming bigger day after day. Populism and extrestremism are increasing in a very scaring and rapid way and, for this reason, I would like to thank a lot the colleagues of Casa da Juventude. Because this kind of activity can involve even the youngest, joining us in our CSE’s motto…

HAVE YOU CHANGED THE WORLD TODAY?
